The Lefton China Company has an interesting history and this piece bearing the Japan sticker is one of the major pieces that play a part in this company's long and varied history.
George Lefton was a Hungarian immigrant who arrived in Chicago in 1939. Although his background was in marketing and designing specialty clothing, he had a passion for collecting fine porcelain.
He founded the Lefton Company in 1941.
Lefton traveled to Japan in 1945 to seal an importing agreement and the first Lefton China product marked "Made in Occupied Japan" reached the United States in 1946.
Lefton China has become one of the most sought after and highly collectible china pieces. In 2005 Lefton China was purchased by OMT Enterprises and they then moved the company to California. They continue to manufacture china, most notably lighthouses under the Lefton name.
